2014 Metrogaine
Around 130 hardy souls braved the dire weather predictions to take part in the 'Woden Wander' - the 2014 6hr metrogaine on Sunday 17 August 2014. It did turn out to be a cold and wet day but was saved by the fact we had the Garran Scout Hall to shelter in for map preparations at the start, and to eat the delicous food put on by the Scouts and hear results at the end of the day. For those that braved the cold they enjoyed jumping the many puddles and climbing the hills to see the great views that the Woden Valley offers. Perhaps a few people found some spots they may not have known existed prior to the event such as the pink Hindu temple in Mawon and the Woden Valley Flood Memorial.
The overall winner was Rob Walter, who cleared the course in under five hours. Susie Sprague won the Women's Open category with Clare Lonergan and Kieran Macdonell winning the Mixed Open. The Junior category was hotly contested by Ciaran Lane and Jesse Piiroinen, with Ciaran taking the honours on this occasion. Tara Sutherland and Ella Cuthbert won the family category.
A big thank you to all the volunteers that helped make it all possible: Benita, Troy, Dan, Dane, Ron, Dave, Julie, Sean, Colin and Colleen.
Thanks once again to John Harding for sharing his snaps, especially those taken out on the course.
