2014 6/12 hr Spring Event - Bournda NP
Rogainers were greeted with perfect sunny conditions for the Spring 6/12 hour event at Bournda National Park on the NSW South Coast on Saturday 18 October 2014. Set in the beautiful Bournda National Park, situated on the NSW south coast between Tathra and Tura Beach, the area was last used for an ACTRA rogaine eight years ago. The Hash House was at the Hobart Beach campground, on the shores of Wallagoot Lake, and had top quality amenities including hot showers (luxury)!
Following the midday start, some headed to the faster travelling southern half of the map, enjoying the stunning views around Bournda Lagoon and the hills around Bournda Trig, while others headed to the north of the map to enjoy the coastal views along the Kangarutha Track and the challenging controls in the north west.
Rogainers encountered a variety of wildlife, particularly goannas, and with the fine conditions it was no surprise that most teams stayed on the course as long as possible.
Congratulations to the overall winners of the 6 hour event, Lizzie Ingham and Mark Euston, with a score of 1480, and to Rob Walter and Matt Crane who won the 12 hour event by clearing the course with about an hour to spare. Congratulations also to all category winners.
Big thanks to Hartley Lifecare for providing excellent catering on the Saturday night dinner and Sunday breakfast, and also thanks to the volunteers, landowners and park ranger.
